Growth factors isolated from your own blood

Platelets store signalling proteins involved in tissue repair. GFC processing activates the platelets and isolates released growth factors into a concentrated preparation for scalp injection.

These signals may support the environment around viable follicles, encourage follicular activity and improve hair calibre in responsive patients. The preparation is autologous, meaning it comes from the patient’s own blood, but this does not make outcomes universal or the procedure risk-free.

Before

During

Preparation and injections

The visit usually involves blood collection, processing and a series of small scalp injections. Numbing can be used when clinically appropriate.

After

What is GFC hair treatment?

GFC stands for Growth Factor Concentrate. A small blood sample is processed in dedicated tubes to isolate a concentrated, cell-free preparation of platelet-derived growth factors. It is then injected into selected areas of the scalp as part of a dermatologist-led hair-loss plan.

How is GFC different from PRP?

Both are autologous treatments prepared from your own blood. PRP contains concentrated platelets, while GFC processing is designed to activate platelets and collect released growth factors with minimal cellular material. Neither is automatically the better option for every patient; the diagnosis, stage of hair loss, protocol and clinician’s assessment matter.

Who may benefit from GFC?

It may be considered for suitable men and women with early or moderate pattern hair loss, progressive thinning or reduced hair density. It cannot revive follicles that are permanently destroyed and is not a substitute for diagnosing thyroid disease, nutritional deficiency, scarring alopecia or other causes of shedding.

How many sessions are usually required?

Many treatment plans use three to four initial sessions, commonly spaced about a month apart. The exact number, interval and need for maintenance are decided after examining the scalp and reviewing response. A fixed package should not replace diagnosis.

When can results be assessed?

Reduced shedding may be noticed before visible improvement in density. Because hair grows slowly, meaningful assessment usually requires comparable photographs and clinical review over three to six months. Response varies and cannot be guaranteed.

Is GFC painful or does it require downtime?

Scalp injections can cause brief pinching, pressure or tenderness. Topical anaesthesia may be used when appropriate. Most people return to normal activity quickly, although temporary redness, swelling, soreness, itching, pinpoint bleeding or bruising can occur.

Are GFC results permanent?

No. GFC does not remove the underlying tendency to pattern hair loss or every trigger for shedding. Ongoing medical treatment, correction of contributing factors and maintenance sessions may be advised according to the diagnosis and response.
